This document lists all available presets in MIDI Sketch.

New to these settings?

Each preset is a bundle of the config fields taught in the course. The capstone chapter Mapping Concepts to Config shows how every preset value maps back to a musical idea.

Section Types

Section order and the energy profile it produces Seven sections run left to right — Intro, A, B, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus, Outro — drawn as bars whose height is the section's energy level. Energy climbs from low at the intro through medium-low and medium in the A and B sections to high at each chorus, drops back to medium-low for the bridge, and stays there for the outro. Under each bar is its vocal density: none at the intro and outro, sparse in the A section and the bridge, full through B and the choruses. Duration Calculation

At 120 BPM: 1 bar ≈ 2 seconds. Use targetDurationSeconds=0 to use the exact pattern duration, or specify a target duration for auto-generated structures.

Mood Categories

Mood presets grouped by the tempo they default to Three tempo bands stacked from slow to fast. The slow band, 70 to 100 BPM, holds Ballad, Sentimental, Chill, RnBNeoSoul, LatinPop, Trap and Lofi. The mid band, 100 to 125 BPM, holds StraightPop, MidPop, CityPop and Synthwave. The fast band, 125 to 150 BPM, holds BrightUpbeat, ElectroPop, IdolPop, AnimeHighEnergy and FutureBass. Choosing a Style Preset

Style presets provide sensible defaults for BPM, structure, vocal attitude, and recommended chord progressions. You can override any of these settings after calling createDefaultConfig().

BGM-Only Modes

BackgroundMotif and SynthDriven do not generate vocal tracks. BackgroundMotif keeps Aux active and enables Motif generation; SynthDriven disables both Vocal and Aux and enables Motif generation. Section masks and layer schedules determine where Motif notes remain. Use MelodyLead for songs with vocals.

Traditional and MelodyDriven share the same track order; what separates them is collision priority. Under Traditional the Motif outranks Bass and Chord, so they move out of its way. Under MelodyDriven the Motif drops below both, and it is the Motif that yields.

Note: Locked is an alias for LockedContour (1). motifRepeatScope is read only under Free; every other policy ignores it.

Blueprint Override

Blueprints 1-8 carry their own section flow, which replaces the formId setting. BehavioralLoop (9) defines no section flow, so it keeps whatever formId resolves to. The full order is targetDurationSeconds > formExplicit=true > blueprint section flow > the structure pattern from formId. Use ID 0 (Traditional) to keep full control of form structure.

MelodyLead

MelodyLead — which tracks are generated and what each one does Five tracks feed the mix. The vocal is the lead, the aux track carries a sub-melody, and chord, bass and drums supply harmonic support, foundation and rhythm. BackgroundMotif

A repeating motif is the lead, the aux track carries a sub-melody, and chord, bass and drums supply harmonic support, foundation and rhythm. No Vocal in BackgroundMotif

BackgroundMotif disables the Vocal track. The Aux track remains active and provides sub-melody support alongside the motif.

SynthDriven

SynthDriven — which tracks are generated and what each one does Four tracks feed the mix. The arpeggio is the lead, the chord track becomes a pad, and bass and drums supply foundation and rhythm. No Vocal/Aux in SynthDriven

SynthDriven disables both the Vocal and Aux tracks. Arpeggio must be manually enabled (arpeggioEnabled=true) as it is not auto-enabled.

For SongConfig, arpeggioPattern: 255 and arpeggioSpeed: 255 select Auto values from the mood. arpeggioGate: -1 uses the style default; concrete values override these defaults.

Vocal Style Presets

14 vocal style presets. A style does not pick one melody template for the whole song: the template is resolved per section, from a style-and-section override table first and the section default second.

Rock, PowerfulShout and the three idol styles additionally use CallResponse in the Bridge.

Vocal Style Categories

Vocal style presets grouped by how many notes they put in the chorus Three bands stacked from dense to sparse. The densest choruses come from UltraVocaloid, Idol, Anime, BrightKira and CuteAffected; UltraVocaloid goes further and adds 32nd notes. Vocaloid and KPop sit near the baseline. The sparsest choruses come from Rock, CityPop, CoolSynth, PowerfulShout and Ballad. Auto and Standard apply no settings of their own and keep the style preset's melody defaults. Syncopation Dependency

The syncopation effects of VocalGroove (OffBeat, Swing, Syncopated, Driving16th, Bouncy8th) only take effect when enableSyncopation=true. When enableSyncopation=false, syncopation weight is forced to 0.0, syncopation_prob is set to 0.0, and allow_bar_crossing is set to false. Timing offsets (e.g., +60 ticks for OffBeat) are applied regardless of the enableSyncopation setting.

Energy Curve

4 energy curve options control how energy progresses throughout the song:

Mora Rhythm Mode

3 rhythm modes for syllable timing:

Melody Overrides

Fine-grained melody parameters that override VocalStylePreset and MelodicComplexity defaults. Sentinel values (0, 0xFF, -128) preserve preset defaults.

Parameter Application Order

Melody overrides are applied after StylePreset, VocalStylePreset, and MelodicComplexity. User-specified values always take the highest priority.

Fine-grained motif parameters that override style defaults:

Drive Feel

Continuous value 0-100 controlling performance intensity:

  • 0 = Laid-back (relaxed timing, lower velocity)
  • 50 = Neutral (default)
  • 100 = Aggressive (ahead timing, higher velocity, enhanced syncopation with enableSyncopation=true)

BPM Range

Valid tempo range: 40-240 BPM

BPM Setting

  • Set to 0 to use the style preset's default BPM
  • Each style preset has an optimal default BPM setting
  • BPM outside the 40-240 range will cause validation errors

Ballad Tempo

Ballad presets typically have slow default tempos (72-95 BPM). If you need a faster ballad, explicitly set config.bpm.

For dramatic-pop-style dense melodies with wide intervals, use:
